Frodon Seat Clamp

This is the one people get wrong, so it is worth being clear: the clamp size is the outside diameter of your frame's seat tube, not the diameter of your seatpost. A 30.9mm post does not mean a 30.9mm clamp — the tube wall adds several millimetres on top. Measure the outside of the seat tube at the slot with a caliper, or read the size off the clamp already on the bike. Guessing from the post size is how you end up with a clamp that will not close.

Only as tight as it needs to be to stop the post slipping — start light, load the saddle with your weight, and go up in small steps until it holds. Winding it down hard does not help and can distort the seat tube, and on a carbon frame it can do real damage. If the post still creeps at a sensible tension, the problem is usually a greasy or dirty post rather than the clamp: wipe both clean and try again. Follow your frame manufacturer's torque figure if they publish one, since it is the frame that sets the limit here.

Yes — a seat clamp does not care what kind of post is inside it, only what size seat tube it is going around. The one thing to watch is cable routing: if your dropper's cable exits at the top of the seat tube rather than being routed internally through the frame, make sure the clamp is turned so the bolt is not fouling it. Otherwise it fits exactly as it would with a rigid post.

It is light because of how it is made, not because material has been left out. The Frodon is machined from a single piece of AL6061 rather than cast or folded, so there is no join to be the weak point, and the threaded locking nut spreads the load instead of relying on a stamped ear. A clamp's job is to squeeze a tube evenly — that takes precision far more than it takes bulk.

Yes. A seat clamp is one of the few parts that genuinely does not care what the bike is for — mountain, road, gravel or BMX, all that matters is the seat tube diameter. Measure yours and pick 31.8mm or 34.9mm accordingly.
