Taipan Flat Pedals

The Taipan pedals are equipped with a single bushing on the inner side and a 686 cartridge bearing (6mm x 13mm x 5mm) on the outer side.

To keep your pedals in top shape, we provide Axle Replacement Kits and Pedal Pin Kits as available spare parts.

The Taipan has a 105 x 100mm platform, a 62mm Q factor and weighs 380g a pair. The Taipan S is smaller in every direction — 95 x 80mm, a 52mm Q factor and 325g a pair — and is built for smaller feet, teenagers and older kids. Both use the same CrMo axle and the same pin kit, so the choice comes down to shoe size and how far apart you want your feet to sit.

Each side has 4 pins moulded into the body plus 6 replaceable alloy pins, so 10 contact points per side. The replaceable pins have rounded tips rather than sharp points — a deliberate choice, so that a slipped pedal bruises your shin instead of cutting it. Spares are sold as the Taipan and Taipan S Pedal Pin Kit.

The body is glass fibre reinforced thermoplastic, not plain plastic — the glass fibre is what gives it the stiffness to carry a rider's weight while keeping the pair at 380g. The axle is CrMo steel, so the part taking the real load is still metal. If you want a forged alloy body and a thinner 10.5mm profile instead, that is the Python.
