Taipan S Flat Pedals

The Taipan S pedals are equipped with a single bushing on the inner side and a 686 cartridge bearing (6mm x 13mm x 5mm) on the outer side.

Riders with smaller feet — teenagers, junior racers, and adults who find a full-size platform too big. The platform is 95 x 80mm against 105 x 100mm on the standard Taipan, and the Q factor is 52mm rather than 62mm, so the feet sit closer together — which suits narrower hips. They weigh 325g a pair.

Each side has 4 pins moulded into the body plus 6 replaceable alloy pins. The replaceable pins have rounded tips instead of sharp points, which matters most on a junior bike: a slipped pedal should bruise a shin, not cut it. Spares are the Taipan and Taipan S Pedal Pin Kit, which fits both models.

Check the crank first. Taipan S pedals use the same thread as our full-size pedals, so they fit any crank that takes a standard adult mountain bike pedal. Bikes built around a one-piece crank — usually the smallest kids' bikes — use a narrower pedal thread and will not accept them; the quickest check is to compare with the pedal you are taking off. Remember that the left pedal is reverse-threaded and tightens counter-clockwise: our pedal fitting guide walks through it.
