Because a child's hand is smaller. A 22.2mm bar wrapped in a normal grip gives a young rider something they cannot close their fingers around, which costs them control of the brakes exactly when they need it. The 19mm ends make the whole grip thinner. They pair with our Hilt JR grips, which are built for 19mm and will not fit anything else.

Yes — four rubber spacers come in the box for exactly this. They pack out the 19mm section so a standard 22.2mm shifter, brake lever or grip clamps up properly, which means you can keep the controls the bike came with and only change the bar. Use the spacers for the controls and the thin 19mm section for the grips, and you get the best of both.

680mm wide with 20mm of rise, 5.5° of upsweep and 8° of backsweep, and it weighs 231g. The stem clamp is the standard 31.8mm — only the ends are narrowed to 19mm. 680mm is deliberately short: a wide bar on a small bike makes the steering feel slow and puts a young rider's hands out beyond their shoulders.

Yes, it is designed to be trimmed — it is alloy, so a pipe cutter or a hacksaw with a cutting guide will do it. Take the same amount off each end, measure from the centre rather than from the ends, and leave enough 19mm section for the grip plus room for the controls. A rough guide is that the rider's hands should sit about shoulder width apart. It cannot be undone, so cut a little and try it before cutting more.

If the stem is 31.8mm, yes — that is the normal size on kids' and youth bikes with a three-piece crank and a threadless fork, and it is what the Speedrun uses. Measure the stem clamp before ordering; some very small bikes use a 25.4mm clamp, and that will not take this bar. Tighten the faceplate to the figure printed on the stem, in a criss-cross pattern, with the gap even top and bottom.

When they can wrap a hand comfortably around a 22.2mm grip and still reach the brake lever with one finger — that is the test, not their age. Until then the thinner bar is doing real work. When they are ready, a full-size bar such as the Flame On at 680mm is a natural next step: same width, standard 22.2mm ends, so only the grips need changing.
