Alloy Bike Grip Clamping Rings for Hilt / Holeshot

The Hilt Lock-On Grips and the Holeshot Lock-On Grips — those are the two built around this ring. The Hilt ES is a slip-on grip with no lock ring at all, so there is nothing on it to replace, and the Hilt JR is built around a smaller 19mm bore, so these will not fit it either. Other brands are out as well: every manufacturer shapes the collar to suit its own grip, so a ring from one will not seat properly on another.

A pair — one for each grip, so a single order does the whole bar. Both the Hilt and the Holeshot use a single clamp per side rather than a ring at each end, which is why one pair is all a set of grips needs.

Yes — the ring will not pass over the body of the grip, so the grip comes off the bar first. Undo the clamp bolt, work the grip and ring off together, swap the ring, then slide the grip back on and retighten. It is a five-minute job per side, and because these are lock-on grips nothing has to be cut or glued the way a slip-on grip would.

Usually for the colour. The ring is the only visible metal on the grip, so changing it is the cheapest way to pick up the colour of your stem, hubs or frame without buying new grips. The other reason is damage: a hard landing on the bar end, or a bolt head that has rounded out, finishes a ring long before the rubber is worn, and a new ring is a far better trade than a new set of grips.

Firm, not forced. A single-clamp grip is held by one bolt per side, which tempts people to overdo it, but 6061 alloy strips and the collar can split. Tighten until the grip will not twist under a hard shove from your palm, then stop. Check it again after the first ride — that is when a freshly fitted grip beds in and a ring that felt right can go slightly loose.
