UDH Hanger

If your frame is built around the UDH standard, yes — that is the whole point of UDH. Rather than every brand having its own hanger shape, a UDH frame takes the same hanger no matter who made the bike, so there is no part number to chase. If you are not sure, look at the hanger that is on the bike now: a UDH wraps around the outside of the dropout and the rear thru-axle threads into the hanger itself, rather than bolting to the inside face of the dropout the way a traditional hanger does.

One caveat: a handful of new aero road frames carry the UDH name but deviate from SRAM's spec — on those, buy the hanger from your frame maker. Our UDH guide covers how to check your frame.

The bolt hardware. The hanger body is black anodized on every version — the colour you choose is the hardware that comes with it, so you can pick up an accent you already have on the bike, or choose Black if you would rather it disappeared. Fit and function are identical across all eight.

Bending is the job. A derailleur hanger is a deliberately sacrificial part: it is meant to be the thing that gives way in a crash or a drive-side impact so that the frame and the derailleur survive. The UDH design takes that further — it is shaped to rotate backwards out of the way under load rather than snap off, which is why plenty of riders walk away from a hard hit with the hanger still usable. CNC-machining it from 6061 gives consistent, predictable strength, which matters more in a part like this than raw toughness does.

It depends which Transmission you mean, and the difference matters. The full-mount T-Type groups — XX SL, XX, X0 and GX Eagle Transmission — bolt directly to the frame and replace the hanger altogether, so on those bikes there is nothing for this to do. Eagle 90 and Eagle 70 Transmission are the other kind: they are mechanical and they mount on the UDH hanger, so those setups do need one, and this is it. The same goes for every conventional derailleur on a UDH frame, SRAM or Shimano. It is worth keeping a spare either way — on a full-mount bike, the hanger is what lets you drop back to a hangered derailleur if you ever need to.

No, and that is one of the quiet advantages of the standard. A UDH locates off the dropout face and is clamped in place by the thru-axle, so there is no alignment step and no hanger-alignment tool to track down — fit it, torque it to the figure in your frame manual, run the axle through, and the derailleur sits where it should. It also means that when a hanger has taken a hit, the right fix is a new one rather than bending the old one back.

After any solid drive-side impact, and any time shifting has gone vague or noisy for no other reason — a hanger a couple of degrees out of true will make a perfectly good derailleur feel worn out. A visible bend, a crack, or damaged threads mean it is finished. Hangers are small, light and cheap next to a ruined derailleur, so one in the pack on a trip away is some of the better insurance you can carry.
